Sssssomewhat headcanon, but referred to in passing by other characters.
So at the age of eleven, Hakuren leaves his home and his rich and powerful family to join the church and apply for his apprenticeship! HE WILL NOT REMEMBER WHY, because that's a separate memory and pretty significant on its own! But the gist is that he, at eleven years old, is a sheltered rich boy who has decided to strike it out on his own and enter the church. Completely on his own, he makes his way up those stairs and enters the church, where he made his case for wanting to join. At the time he's terrified, exhilirated, and more determined than he's ever been in his life to this point.
What it does is give him some backstory on himself--why he was a priest, how he's already a bishop at his age (he started when he was eleven, okay!), and gives him more grounding and zen on the path he's chosen.
So basically: MOTHERING LEVELS UP x 2 YEAY
